Turgite - The Burnished Earth
There is something about Autumn that makes the earth itself appear burnished.
Colours of copper, bronze, rust and gold.
Turgite feels elemental in the truest sense: earth transformed by its encounter with the elements.
Its beauty does not come from remaining untouched but through exposure. Through change. Through contact with the elements.
This is the season where everything begins to show the evidence of having lived. Leaves bronze. Seed heads dry. Bark darkens with rain. The landscape becomes rougher, richer, more textured.
Not ruined by the weather.
Burnished by it.
I reach for Turgite when I need reminding that being changed by what I have lived through is not the same as being diminished by it.
Some experiences leave their mark.
Some deepen the colour.
Autumn seems to understand that there is no need to return to how we were before.
There is beauty in becoming something else.
Not untouched. Not diminished. Burnished.
